As part of the City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities’ Aging Infrastructure Program, the department is replacing the sanitary sewer pump station located at 160 Opal Avenue. The pump station, built in 1971, has reached the end of its useful life and has experienced ongoing operational issues. A new pump station will be constructed at 141 Opal Avenue with enough capacity to support a wide range of flows based on existing and future needs of the surrounding area. Additionally, a permanent generator will be installed as a backup power source. Once completed, the expected service life of the pump station is at least 60 years.
